Robins
Welcome to Robins!
We are really excited for the year ahead at school and looking forward to supporting your children in all areas of their learning journey.
Reading
Please read as much as possible at home, ideally daily. This includes both reading to children and listening to them read or tell stories. There will be a phonics/early-reading information event in the Autumn term to explain more about our reading curriculum.
After October half term, children will be able to earn stamps for reading at least three times a week at home. Filling up their ‘stamp cards’ will earn them certificates.
Counting
Please encourage your child to do a little bit of counting, daily if possible. The more practice they get, the better their awareness will become. This could include some:
- rote counting (Number songs are great to support this)
- counting objects (This could include counting how many toy dinosaurs they have, or how many red cars they spot on the way to school)
- counting forwards and backwards. (Being a rocket and blasting off to space is a fun way to do this)
- counting from 0 or starting from a different number. (You could give your child a number and challenge them to tell you what comes next and to carry on counting)
Self-help skills
Please continue to support your child at home to develop their independence by encouraging them to learn how to dress themselves such as putting on their own coats and zipping them up, putting on their shoes and using cutlery to eat their food with.
Spare clothes
Please could we ask you to provide a full set of clothing in your child’s bag (such as trousers/skirts, pants, knickers and socks). This helps if children have a toilet accident or get wet in puddles.
We like to open up our outside area as much as possible. On wet days, children can bring in wellies, waterproofs and spare socks for playing in the rain.
Labels
Please label all clothes (especially jumpers/cardigans which are all the same), water bottles, lunch boxes, bags, coats, wellies, gloves, hats etc.
Drop off
The children have made a great start at coming into the classroom independently. Once the first few weeks of term are out of the way, we would like parents to drop off children on the playground rather than coming into the classroom with them. This helps to build up independence for the children. If your child wishes to show you something in the classroom, or they would like help changing their book, we are happy for you to come in at the end of the school day.
Toys from home
Could we ask that no toys from home are brought into school to prevent them getting lost or broken and causing upset. If your child has a favourite book they would like to bring in we are happy to share these at story time when possible.
If there are any questions at all, please speak to us on the gate or make an appointment via the office.
