Fantastic Footballers

On Tuesday before half term, we took two teams to compete in the Norfolk School Games Girls’ Football Competition. Congratulations to both teams on their fantastic success – we are incredibly proud of you all!

Year 3 and 4 Team

The Year 3/4 girls had an outstanding tournament, winning 4 of their 6 matches with impressive scorelines of 10–0, 7–0, 10–0 and 4–0. They narrowly lost one match 3–2 and were defeated 5–1 by the eventual winners, Cromer.

An amazing highlight of the day was that all six girls scored during the tournament! Goal scorers were Harper (12), Kacie (11), Eva (4), Darcie (4), Lily (2), and even Pollyanna, our goalkeeper, who scored 1 goal.

The team finished an incredible 3rd overall – a remarkable achievement, especially as all but one of the squad are Year 3 pupils, and they all only began playing football in the summer!

Year 5 and 6 Team

The Year 5/6 team dominated their group stage, winning 6–0, 13–0 and 2–0 to secure a place in the semi-finals against Millfield. This was a tense and closely fought match, featuring outstanding goalkeeping from Rose and a fantastic team goal finished brilliantly by Ellie. The girls secured a well-deserved 1–0 victory to reach the final.

In the final, they faced a strong Bure Valley side and, despite a determined performance, finished as runners-up. However, both Bure Valley and Worstead qualify for the County Finals in March – a tremendous achievement!

Goal scorers were Ellie (12), Autumn (4), Annabelle (3), Guinivere (2) and Rose, our keeper, who even added 1 goal. A special mention to Paige and Sofia for their excellent tackling, passing, and unwavering support for their teammates throughout the competition.

We are immensely proud of all the girls, not only for the fantastic football they played but also for their exemplary attitudes. Their behaviour on and off the pitch was outstanding, and it was wonderful to see how supportive they were of one another. Although they competed as two separate teams, they truly felt like one squad off the pitch – a real credit to our school.

Finally, congratulations to Rose and Kacie, who were awarded the Teamwork Certificates by the event organisers. A thoroughly deserved recognition!

Well done to everyone involved and thank you to Mrs Nicholson for this lovely write-up.
