Welcome to Swifts Class page. We are so proud of how the children have settled into Year 1 and 2 over the last couple of weeks.
Reading The children in Swifts will change their reading books once a week, usually on a Friday. They may also visit the library and bring one extra book home. We would like to encourage children to read as much as possible at home. Parents/ Carers can add a comment in reading diaries when children have read at home, the children can earn house points for this.
Lexia Children in Swifts now have a login for Lexia to help develop reading skills. Children can access this at home too (although not as an alternative to reading their books). Their login details are in their reading records. The website can be found here: Student Login - Core5
Tackling Tables Year 2 have been given a Tackling Tables login card. This has been stuck in the front of their reading record. The children will have the opportunity to use Tackling Tables at school. Please encourage your child to practise at home. We recommend that children start with Purple Addition test. tacklingtables.co.uk
Homework Children will bring home handwriting and spelling homework later this term. Please support and encourage your children to complete these. They can earn house points for their efforts.
This year, we will be following the Little Wandle Handwriting scheme, which is closely linked to our phonics teaching. In previous years, the children have been taught to write using a pre-cursive style. However, new guidance and research indicate that teaching children to print letters during Key Stage 1 is more effective for their long-term handwriting development.
We will be introducing homework books to support children with areas of learning that may benefit from some extra practice at home. This may include skills such as letter and number formation, as well as other areas where additional practice would be helpful.
Homework will not be given out every week. Instead, homework books will be sent home as and when we feel there is a need for further practice or reinforcement.
The office will notify parents when homework books are being sent home and will also let you know when they need to be returned to school. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child practise and develop these important skills at home.
Please send children into school with their book bags and reading books everyday. Please check that water bottles, lunch boxes and clothing have been labelled. We are on the playground at the end of each day and are happy to answer questions or chat if you would like. Alternatively, you can email the office who will pass on any messages.
